I’m not trying to hate on my friends who do this but, I still don’t understand the logic of lowering your car this much. A little bit is fine, but going this far just impacts your car’s driving ability. Seriously though, it just doesn’t make sense. For one, an unexpected bump in the road will absolutely destroy your front bumper and possibly your transmission (and anything else under there). Second off, tilting your wheels like that is beyond dangerous, and, assuming you haven’t broken your axles yet, those wheels could come flying off should they come across some big unexpected bump. Look at that man, it scares me how badly tilted they are. You may think it looks cool, but it won’t be so cool when all-of-a-sudden you’re struggling to maintain control of a three-wheeled car while going 70+ mph on the freeway. And don’t even bet me started about unexpected bumps on freeways…
Lowering your car means little-to-no suspension, and forces upon you a requirement that you drive on near-perfect paved roads. Driveways become a bitch, and so do become speedbumps that are a common feature of most parking lots. Oh, and I mentioned freeways already, right?
“Oh Nico, but lowering my car will make my it go that much faster!”
Okay yeah, that’s true, but the traction generated by the lowered bumper pushing your car to the ground only matters at extraordinarily high speeds when air resistance REALLY kicks in, speeds MOST cars (that are modded) aren’t really capable of, and shouldn’t be going at.
But wait, you forgot one thing. Tires matter just as much. Okay, I’ll give you credit for buying wider tires, since the increased surface area they provide helps improve traction, but TITLING them like this only serves to erase some of that advantage you sought. Think about it. Tilt the tire, and less of it is touching the ground than it normally would be, as evident in the picture, meaning less traction, meaning not as much speed.
Then again, these things don’t even matter since you’re not going to be driving it more than 80mph anyways. People forget that cars, especially higher end cars like this TSX, were designed and optimized for driving on streets and freeways. There’s just no need to be spending so much on these upgrades, especially since, based on my own experience in meeting drivers of these cars, most of you guys aren’t Tokyo-Drift-status underground racers.
Nico, the principle of stance is form over function.
Those who achieve this look are that of select few and do it purely for enjoyment. The enjoyment that 1) ordinary people won’t understand why someone would do this to a car and 2) we have something that is literally on the floor. Stance asks the question, “How wide of wheels can you get on your car and make it fit into the fender?” And people answer this question many different ways.
People like me build a rush of excitement when we read posts like yours because we know how ridiculous this is and we take pride in how much we don’t care.
No, this isn’t at all the smartest thing to do to your car and that’s not something we’re trying to argue against. All we’re attempting to achieve is a look that makes people wonder what any good rationale to do this could be.
The bottom line is, we enjoy this look, we honor the workmanship it takes to achieve and maintain it, and we do not care what anybody else thinks. We do not care about anybody’s rationality or good sense of judgement because we have a passion for this brand of aesthetic and any negative perception won’t change our mind.
Stance is a fucking amazing thing because we take cars and modify them to do a singular thing. Look pretty.
Ps. Generally, people take great measures to ensure the safety of their vehicle. Modification doesn’t just occur haphazardly.
I understand you may think it’s dumb to lower a car this much, but I assure you my wheels won’t be flying off on the freeway, learn how camber works before you think our wheels will fly off..
